When IRCG helps associations with strategy facilitation, it is usually for one of two reasons: 1) the association management needs help getting the Board to “hear,” or the Board needs help getting the association management to “hear,” or 2) the association is wrestling with a political hot potato such as a merger, reorganization or budget deficit which has no apparent end in site.
We usually precede a strategy session with an assessment of what the issues are and how much of a consensus there is around each issue. We have a very effective online tool that makes this assessment extremely efficient. This is an excellent way to open a strategy session. We do not waste time chasing issues that aren’t important. And we conclude the session with written documentation of the discussion and decisions made by the group.
