Future Trend Analysis
Distributor Trade Associations

One of the most valuable tools we use with trade associations is the industry white paper. This is an examination of where the industry is today and where it will be five years into the future.

There are a myriad of advantages to investing in the white paper:

  • The membership gains insight into where customers, channels and suppliers will be in the future as well as the impact these changes will have on their businesses.
  • The membership perceives added value from the association.
  • The association can use the findings to reprioritize the programs and services they provide their membership. We have seen associations reorganize as a result of these new insights.
  • The white paper provides public relations opportunities for the association.
  • The white paper can be the cornerstone of an annual meeting.

To write the white paper, we interview end users, channel members and suppliers in a roundtable fashion: extensively interview them all once, write a draft of the paper and re-interview the same people for reactions to the findings. We then write a final version of the white paper that the association can publish.
